The Pogues have long been one of the great examples of diaspora culture. Successful, outstanding musicians and songwriters yet also political and not afraid to speak the truth to power. In short they give a voice to the marginalised and silenced. Fairytale of New York is of course The Pogues most famous song and the greatest Christmas song ever according to many. Here it is in Irish and I have to say it sounds brilliant. Below that is the original version and a version in Irish sign language. And, if that is not enough for you, here is Russell Crowe singing it in New York a couple of weeks ago.
