27th September marks the annual Gudari Eguna (Basque Combatant’s Day). Events to honour and remember all the Basque freedom fighters fallen in struggle in the last 50 years have been organised in towns across the country today and through the weekend.
This year’s slogan is “Egia bide, askatasuna amets” (something like “Seeking the truth, freedom our dream” or “Through the truth to freedom” meaning that for conflict resolution there is a need to know what really happened during the conflict with all the state violence victims while continuing with the struggle for freedom).
