This Thursday (27th) Edinburgh Council will discuss plans to privatisation £1 billion worth of the city’s services including the cleansing and parks services. The SNP/Liberal council have been discussing the privatisation since 2009. This is a surprise to most of the city’s residents as they have said very little about their plans in public. When public spending watchdog Audit Scotland advised Edinburgh Council to consult residents it employed Ipsos/Mori to carry out a survey on public opinion on the privatisation. Once it received the report it suppressed it and has even refused Freedom Of Information requests to release the findings on the grounds it would ‘prejudice its interests’.
There will be a demonstration outside the City Chambers in the High Street before the Council meeting begins and we would encourage everyone to attend to lobby the councillors.
